Accreditation is the evaluation and external quality assurance process that assesses whether a higher education program meets the academic and field-specific standards previously established by an accreditation body in a specific field.

The Turkish Higher Education Quality Council is responsible for the authorization and recognition activities of accreditation bodies in Turkey. The process of the authorization of national accreditation bodies and the recognition of international accreditation bodies is carried out within the framework of the principles and criteria established by the THEQC.

Since 2016, the Higher Education Institutions Exam (HEIE) Higher Education Programs and Quota Guide (formerly known as Student Selection and Placement System [SSPS] Higher Education Programs and Quota Guide) has included information about the programs accredited by the accreditation bodies authorized or recognized by the THEQC.
